July 18, 2007 Minutes - Lonestar Chapter

Location: La Madeleine French Bakery.

Attendees: Betty Andrews, Sean Habina, Ron Taylor, Brian Parks, Rafael Salazar Jr. and guest Dan Scanlon.

Topics of Discussion:

A. Creating Internet Presence:

• Keep UMUC Lonestar web-site updated with new items for our students, members and interested audiences.
• UMUC Lonestar web-site- should appeal and be exciting our target groups.
• Locate UMUC Alumni across the Lonestar state to view our web-site.
• Host next chapter meeting at La Madeleine live via web-base on August 16th at 6:30pm.
• Contact UMUC alumni using the database information to encourage members to update their profiles on UMUC web site.
• Establish agenda prior to next Lonestar UMUC meetings.
• Photos of the June 2007 UMUC Lonestar Gala at the Riverwalk Marriott will be posted on the web site.

B. Establishing a Financial Structure:

• UMUC Lonestar chapter becoming independent by the end of the year 2008.
• Expectations are to increase membership by 10% via strategic plan.
• Work closely with UM on fund raisers to establish Lonestar cash flow.

C. Military Presence:

• Contact JJ Jones, President for DOD Affairs at UMUC Maryland for advice and support.
• Follow-up on the UMUC Lonestar mentoring program.
• Contact UMUC Lonestar graduate ceremonies for local graduates in May during our Gala in 2008.
• Conduct local job-fairs. First fair will be on August 15, 16, 21 & 23rd during the Northside ISD employee orientation. For further information contact Mr. Sweet UMUC representative at 247-7430.
• Military members pursuing more on-line credit degrees with UMUC.

• August 16 at 6:30 PM at the La Madeleine French Bakery.
