Benefits and Services

Library Services

  • UMUC

All members of the UMUC Alumni Association are eligible to purchase an annual University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) Special Borrower Card at a $35 annual fee. This card allows you to borrow materials from the UMCP libraries.

Please call Information & Library Services at 240-684-2020 or 800-888-UMUC (8682), ext. 22020 during business hours to request a card.

This card is valid for one year from the date of issuance and is only for use at UMCP libraries. Failure to comply with library practices and policies will result in termination of the Special Borrower Card Privileges.

  • Other University of Maryland and Affiliated Institution (USMAI) Libraries

UMUC alumni may review books and other materials at other USMAI libraries, but will not be able to borrow them. Albin O. Kuhn Library (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) and Langsdale Library, University of Baltimore allow borrowing privileges with a standard alumni ID card at no charge. Materials must be picked up on site.

  • Other Options

Many community colleges and public libraries may allow direct borrowing of books. In addition, check the policies of local academic libraries. Please see our Libraries in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. or search LibDex.com to locate a library near you.

Database Access

  • UMUC

Alumni are welcome to use UMUC's databases in the ILS library in Adelphi, MD and at UMUC labs at Waldorf Center or the Dorsey Station library. Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to offer remote database access to alumni at this time.

  • University of Maryland and Affiliated Institution (USMAI) Libraries

Alumni can visit any USMAI library including McKeldin Library at the University of Maryland, College Park, or the Shady Grove Library/Media Center in Rockville, MD and use the electronic databases to which they subscribe.

  • Other Options

In addition to USMAI libraries, subscription database access may be available at a public or community college library. Many public libraries offer remote access to patrons in their county. Please see Libraries in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. or search LibDex.com to locate a convenient library.
