About the Distinguished Alumnus/a Award
Created in 1976 by University of Maryland University College (UMUC), this annual award recognizes an alumnus who has demonstrated exemplary service to UMUC and has accomplished outstanding professional and personal achievements. This is the highest alumni award granted at UMUC.
Award Criteria
To be considered for the award, an individual must:
- Be an alumnus of the university;
- Demonstrate interest and involvement through time, talent or financial support in UMUC academic programs and initiatives or the Alumni Association;
- Reflect and recognize the value of a UMUC education and demonstrate pride and loyalty in his/her alma mater;
- Possess notable professional, community or civic contributions and accomplishments; and,
- Provide noteworthy prominence, integrity and success that the UMUC community would be proud of and inspired by.
Selection Criteria
40% Professional, civic or community achievement and recognition to service and leadership
35% Service to UMUC and/or the Alumni Association
25% Recognition to the university or the Alumni Association
